A.N. This is based on the anime, not the manga (hence no mention per se of the virgin=vampire issue, for example).

Many, many thanks to Noir, who helped me a great deal with the question of a possible gun for Walter and other Hellsing-related questions. (Any mistakes are of course my own).

~Rescue~

Walter couldn't remember when he had first begun to fall in love with Seras Victoria. He didn't entirely understand it. He had of course noticed how beautiful she was right away, with her ivory skin, transformed eyes, and warm fanged smile. He had felt sorry for her, going from being a promising young police officer to an apprentice vampire in the turn of a moment.

But after all these years he gave little thought to his own heart, and he wasn't prepared for the way the young vampire's fresh innocent face and gentle ways surprised him. The only time she had lost control, it had been he who could call her back to order. Even when she fought in the battle that had almost destroyed Hellsing, she had remembered her human past.

He was most frustrated by the fact that it was so ridiculous. At his age, to fall in love with someone so young and unattainable! He didn't care that she was a vampire, even Alucard gave him grudging respect and Seras was still new and innocent. But he knew she would never look at him as anything but a helpful old butler and weapon-maker. He had years of hiding his emotions from Sir Integra and her father and he continued to do so now, delivering blood and weapons to Seras as always without indicating at all how much he admired her.

But when he heard of her plan to infiltrate the Cremor Club on her own, his facade began to slip.

"Seras, I must insist you inform Alucard and Sir Integra of your plans. The Cremor Club is not some nest of freaks such as you used to destroy. It's run by undead almost as old as Alucard, with human accomplices. It's a job for all the Hellsing troops, not you alone."

Seras shook her head. "Alucard will never believe I deserve to fight beside him until I prove myself. I need to be the one to do this."

"Alucard has already offered you his blood," answered Walter. "Be content with that, with beginning to become a true no life king. Don't go off on your own into something you can't handle."

"You're not my captain or my master, to order me around like that," Seras had snapped. But the expression in her scarlet eyes was still kind. He didn't believe she would ever become another cynical Alucard, but only time would tell... time he would never see.

Two nights later, Integra was in one of the dungeon rooms with Alucard.

"Master, I must be given more freedom," Alucard was saying.

"You already roam the night at will, monster," Integra snapped back. "I'm not setting you completely loose on London, not for anything."

"You have Seras Victoria now to serve you," replied Alucard calmly.

"She can't replace you completely, not for generations. You are bound to this family and will remain so."

"You think you are still a little girl who I can feel sorry for?" asked the vampire, standing before her and staring her in the face.

"You never felt sorry for me or any other human. You have no feelings."

Alucard leaned forward. "No feelings, master? No pride, no anger? He stared deeply into her eyes. "No desire?"

Integra wanted to back away but she hated to give in to him. "No."

He suddenly gripped her arm. "I assure you that you are wrong."

"Let go of me." she insisted.

He squeezed her arm harder. "I'll let go when you admit you have your own reasons for keeping me bound."

"Don't be ridiculous," Integra hissed.

Alucard lowered his mouth to her neck then, and bit her. Integra froze stock still. She knew the bond would prevent him from killing her, and she knew he wasn't making her one of his kind, not yet. Her legs began to tremble and he put his arms around her to hold her up.

"Stop... she finally said, and he withdrew his fangs from her neck. To her shock, he then brought his mouth down on hers.

She didn't want to respond, knew she couldn't, but she did, opening her mouth for him and tasting her own blood. He began to kiss her savagely, pawing at the front of her blouse. That was when the door opened.

Walter stared at them unbelieving, then finally spoke.

"While you two are... entertaining yourselves down here, Seras Victoria has gone missing."
